    SUPER UTES?

Post  Cavey on Mon Oct 24, 2016 8:20 am

    http://www.supercars.com/news/championship/superutes-to-launch-in-2017/

Thoughts? Personally, when this was first announced a year or so ago I thought they were going to be RWD petrol Hi Luxes, Amaroks, Rangers etc. Very surprised to read that they are talking diesel utes. Now modern day diesels are nothing like the diesels of old, they don't blow clouds of black smoke (unless they have a problem) and most are actually fairly quick, though they certainly don't compare with a petrol V8. Still, I'm looking forward to it. Could be a good laugh and a bit of fun to watch, don't think many will take it seriously though.

Don't and didn't like the concept from the outset however if the series
is to continue what's the alternative?

Turbo Diesal Utes just don't do it for me.

I would like to be proven wrong.

Just look at the Ssang Yong series in NZ. Sleep

tbh i can understand the need for using the "tonka" trucks but why can't they do something similar to what SuperTourers did and get a crate LS ti run in all of them?

The sound and slowness of a turbi diesel just dosn't cut it for me.

Fans love the sound and speed not exactly whats under the bonnet.

fans don't buy or do buy a Nissan Altima because it has a Patrol based V8 in it or if it had the V6 it has from productiin.

marketing is about the body and badge matching it's road going cousin like for like. The racing entertainment commes from the speed, grunt and sound of the cars.

the sooner VASC and thw manufactuers realise this the better off they will be marketing wise and the better off the series and in the end us fans will be.

Let's be clear on this. VASC are only the carers of V8 Utes due to the
mismagement of the previous association. A new association has been formed
who have chosen this concept. VASC are in the process of handing the responsibility back

Here you go Cavey. One especially for you liveried up compliments of David Sieders.

Studio 19 is his Brothers part of the team.

The association who will be responsible for this category are pushing for V8 Powertrains
of equal capacity to enable bulk purchase.Funded and Distributed by Supercars

100% what I said before Commy. a turtle quiet turbo diesel doesn't cut it. look at the Ssang Yongs in NZ. I said they should go something similar like NZ V8 SuperTourers did and buy a whole heap of crate LS motors.

the fans want the speed and the sound of a big V8. as for the marketing side you are marketing the car not whats under the bonnet and louder faster better racing will only help sell more utes.

It's all being taken into consideration M.F.

The LS1 is the preferred motor.

Supercars aren't in the business of leasing motors.

Noonan's and KRE have the facility and further down the track when everything has been resolved
as to the ute design Supercars may lodge a Guarantee to the suppliers on behalf
of the ute association which has also to be resolved as to appointment

    Supercars still remain the custodian.

IT's up in the air depending on entrants and overall interest.

Supercars stance is they want the Diesal motor but that can change

All depends on Manufacturer input mate.

David's been overseas to have a yarn with a couple and has left it with
    them for consideration.

At this time his intentions are to purchase 5 with 4 for lease with make to
be decided so his arguement would have had some persuasion.
