    Thanks Brian.

Guys following on from the other topic I have never really opened up on my own Motorsport Experience except
to say a couple of years ago I endeavoured to create a Team based around mentoring
up and coming Mechanics and Engineers which the sport seems to have forgotten
about. The concentration was on TAFE and Uni students. It didn't work out due to a number
of  circumstances although I was prepared to fund it. The Education System together with
O.H&S did their best to squash it and they finally did. From memory I kept the Forum in the
loop but not the finality. Also Spoonster wasn't a active member so this is moreso for his knowwledge

Any other questions go right ahead if you wish to know my background on the sport past and
present otherwise theirs plenty to discuss regarding the sport and drivers together with cars
which made the sport what it is to-day during the years

Thanks for taking the idea on board Darren, appreciate !!!

Shame your concept never took off Barry, it certainly shows your passion for the sport and as you said a shame that circumstances prevented it from happening

Just wondering how you decided to get into motorsport in the first place, knowing you were a Bathurst local was it from attending events at the Mountain or did it come from other sources ?

Bit of both Mate. My father owned the Local Go Kart Circuit which no longer exists in Bathurst
and was instrumental in the construction of Mt Panorama which was well before I was
    thought of..

He influenced me into Go Karts which flowed on to me joining Bathurst Light Car
Club where I assumed a number of Aministrative Roles together with Organising
and Participating in Club Events. I am still a member of the club.

Dad was an avid Motorsport supporter and I suppose the Genes passed on.

Their was never a meeting at The Mount where Dad wouldn't have a truck
parked at the foot of the Mountain so people could perch on the Tabletop
and view the Racing until he was critically injured in a Road Accident and became
    a Partial Quadraplegic

Through the influence of the Club and it's members I chose to build a Rally Car
with which I competed at State Level. Through all this I funded my own Motorsport
together with Sponsorship and 3 jobs. My Parents wouldn't have it any other way. No Silver Spoon
    was ever offered my way.

A good education was my Mother's priority so I am a Qualified Public Accountant/Enjoyed
a career in the Banking Scene where I achieved a peak of being A Corporate/International
Manager which enabled me to travel overseas and assume positions in London,New York and
Auckland. I resigned and formed my own business and we all know what happened from their.

Their's a lot in between but's that's how it all started.

Would have been amazing going to Bathurst back in those days Smile

Whilst I watched Bathurst for many years glued to the TV (first real memory was the Brock A9X in 1979) my first 'live' Bathurst was bittersweet as it was 1994 and the first day at the famed Mountain we witnessed the tragic loss of Don Watson but then only missed one Bathurst (the big wet of 2000) due to a wedding on the same weekend

Have missed the last couple due to various circumstances but still get a huge buzz driving in and seeing that first glimpse of the Mount Panorama sign in the distance, something that driving to Sandown, Phillip Island, Winton, etc will never match

I'd imagine back in the days before speed cameras, radars, etc there would have been a lot of stuff going on around the Mountain in between race meetings

What was your first rally car ?

My days go back to the death of Bevan Gibson 1969 prior to the chase.

I can still remember Gibson (Driving for Bob Jane) entering the last hump on Conrod
and the car becomming airborne. Much the same as Webber's experience with M.B at Le Mans.

Can't remember my 1st Bathurst but I was very young.

Still attend annually primarily the week before and Saturday as I have 5 B-Double Transporters of the highest standard that service the industry. Serves 2 purposes. Ensure things are done right with a mixture of Motorsport. Watch the race at home with all the comforts these days and then back to the circuit on Monday to assist in Pack up. Bathurst to home is a comfortable 2/30 hours

The death of Don Watson rocked my family badly. He and my father were very close
friends with both being in the Transport industry. He and his wife were my parents House
    Guests that particular weekend.

The Mount was a playground for the town hoons. I think it was a competition between
Bathurst/Blayney/Orange who could be the biggest hoon. It was still patrolled by the local police
    but somehow it still happened.

My First and only Car for rally was a G.T. Cortina. We just kept rebuilding the car until I wrote it off through hitting a Pole head on:

    (Photo taken by Rally Photographer)

Good old cars and popular for rally's in those days.

As you can see safety was a priority with Helmuts/Rollbars etc. Still carried a shovel/torch/Fire extinguisher/Tool requirements etc which was required

Providing you rolled up with no Oil Leaks/Reversing Light/Registered/Rear Mud Flaps and good tyres etc you were Go and this was N.S.W. Club Championship which stretched all over the state

    Thanks for the info Smile

The Cortina's were great cars, owned a couple of Escort's but always wanted a decent old school Cortina
